Over Spring Family Weekend, students and their families filled Allen Theater to enjoy the incredible performances of Berkshire’s musicians. The Spring Concert was a defining highlight of the weekend, showcasing the talent and hard work of several music groups on campus: the chamber music ensemble, acapella ensemble, digital music class, guitar ensemble, jazz ensemble, Greensleeves, and Ursa Minor.
The jazz band kicked things off with their strong opening performances of “Big Chief,” “On Green Dolphin Street,” and “C-Jam Blues.” Filling the gaps between live sets, the digital music class showcased their work, keeping the audience engaged and entertained throughout the concert.
One of the most memorable moments came when the guitar ensemble led the audience in a sing-along of “Don’t Stop Believin’,” which created fun, high energy between parents and students. The chorus also leaned into crowd-pleasing classics with Earth, Wind, and Fire’s “September.” The evening’s variety continued when the chamber music ensemble stole the stage with an outstanding performance of “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik,” which we are sure made Mozart himself proud.
Greensleeves kept the momentum going with a pairing of “Richard Petty” and the Brit-pop classic “Don’t Look Back in Anger.” The crowd heard from new and familiar soloists–including sophomores and graduating seniors–who lit up the stage with their unique voices. Finally, Ursa Minor closed the night with Lorde’s “Ribs” and Destiny’s Child’s “Bills, Bills, Bills,” a fitting finale for a concert that spanned centuries.
Spring concerts are particularly emotional as seniors take their final bows on the Allen Theater stage. Their performances felt especially meaningful, marking the end of their time in Berkshire’s music program and earning them well-deserved recognition. Overall, the evening was a testament to the musical talent within the Berkshire community and created a sense of joy as we entered into the long weekend.
