Many of us Berkshire students spend the dark winter months dreading each moment in the menacingly frigid air, counting down the days until the snow melts along with our frozen morale. For the ski team, though, this could not be further from the truth.
Our Alpine Ski teams find ultimate joy, companionship, and fun every afternoon on Catamount Mountain. According to Nathalie Fenton ‘26, a three-year member of the girls’ team, “It has been my favorite season at Berkshire because the spirit and culture of the team is unlike any other team that I’ve been on.” This “culture” is the team’s engine; a genuine appreciation for each other and for the sport fuels the unmatched positivity this group radiates. Addie Howard ‘26, a first-year member of the team, reflects on her first race back in December: “All my friends were cheering me on, and I could hear them the whole time, which really helped keep my spirits up.” This encouragement and unwavering support transform the slow and solemn winter into a season of excitement and camaraderie.
A shared highlight among the team is Funky Friday, when everyone dresses in their most outrageous outfits, adding an extra dose of fun to practice each week. This atmosphere, filled with high energy and genuine enjoyment, is what makes the ski team truly special.
Good vibes are not all they are capable of, though. The team has competed in seven races so far this season: three at Catamount and four at Sundown. Notably, on the January 29th race at Catamount, the boys placed first, and the girls placed third. Additionally, on the February 11th race at Sundown, Berkshire’s own Andrew Miller ‘25 scored first overall. This remarkable accomplishment is no small feat and deserves the attention of the Berkshire community.
Ultimately, the success of the Alpine Skiing team is the result of incredible athletes supporting one another and loving what they do. Whether they are competing at Catamount or Sundown, or laughing in their funky outfits, this team exemplifies true Berkshire spirit.
