Although she may have assumed a new position here under the Mountain, Allison Letourneau is not new to Berkshire. Ms. Letourneau was the Dean of Admissions from 2022-2025, and she is an alumnus. The beginning of this school year marked the end of her time in Chase House, but the beginning of a new era as Associate Head of School.
Ms. Letourneau says that it “has been an amazing transition,” but that she will “always miss admissions,” and has managed to find “her way back there every week to check in on families and the admissions office.” Ms. Letourneau explains that she has been helping out in Chase House since she was a Fourth Form Green Key Head at Berkshire, and misses “giving tours and helping students.”
There are also many upsides to Ms. Letourneau’s new role, such as an office in Berkshire Hall, “the heart of Campus.” Due to this prime location, Ms. Letourneau can walk out to the atrium to chat with friends and students during passing periods, which she says is “so special.”
Furthermore, Ms. Letourneau loves that her new position is on the same schedule as the rest of the school, so she can attend all-school meetings, which she could not do before. Ms. Letourneau enjoys the opportunity because she gets to see all the “amazing kids sitting in Allen Theater.”
Although she misses working in admissions, Ms. Letourneau is excited to spearhead Berkshire’s efforts to use AI as a tool in the school’s curriculum. This project has been in development for the past few years as Berkshire faculty members have been discussing how to integrate AI into education.
Ms. Letourneau has put together a group of teachers who will work with an outside consultant “to develop an AI-informed lesson plan and assessment tool.” Ms. Letourneau hopes that this initiative will help “remove the stigma” surrounding AI and will show that AI can be used to “deepen learning.”
The impact that Ms. Letourneau had in Chase House is evident in Berkshire’s incredible community. Nevertheless, as the school year continues, Ms. Letourneau looks forward to “broadening her impact on campus” by interacting more with students and continuing to work with teachers to be at the forefront of incorporating AI as a tool into education.
