Dear Readers of The Green and Gray,
Welcome to the second issue of the 2025-2026 academic year! As we near the end of a strikingly cold winter trimester, we reflect on the moments that made it memorable—in fact, historical. For example, the Bears celebrated a rare snow day after 18 inches of powder buried the campus. According to Ms. McGovern, it was only the fourth one in her 27-year career under the Mountain! Yet, despite the relentless subzero days, gusty conditions, and early sunsets, the Berkshire community, as always, made the most of every moment, basking in laughter, joy, and connection.
In this issue, our writers yet again dive into a plethora of eye-catching news, both on and off campus. Writers explored the growing influence of Australia’s adolescent social media ban and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra at Davos, while closer to home, they covered Berkshire’s annual Jazz Café and a hot-take on the lack of students in our academic resource centers. In addition to this issue, we’ve been publishing weekly articles to keep you updated and informed. Since the first issue was published in November, staff writers have delved into topics that pique their interest, for example, Thanksgiving’s commercialization, a summary of 2025’s key events, and a reflection on the 2026 Yale MUN Conference. Last but not least, this issue features our popular crossword puzzles, Berkshire-themed Wordles and Connections, and seasonal playlists. Keep an eye out for this issue’s Valentine’s Day-themed crossword!
As the trimester comes to a close, we know how easy it is to get caught up in a countdown where we find ourselves glancing more at the calendar than Berkshire’s wintry, idyllic surroundings. However, we at The Green and Gray urge you to remember that the days are fleeting, especially for the Class of 2026. We strive to encourage every Bear to treasure and reflect on the daily experiences that lead to unforgettable memories. Even on weary, challenging days, we believe writing will always serve as a grounding force that binds the immense diversity of thought and opinion that constitutes Berkshire’s student body. So, as you read the issue our staff has worked diligently to produce, please recall our hope for you: stay curious, stay informed, and stay hopeful.
