As the Bears concluded their winter season, 12 girls from Berkshire’s Varsity Ice Hockey team went to the USA National Championships from April 3rd to April 6th. The Varsity Hockey players who attended were: Aliza Torop ’28, Makenna Komanecky ’28, Addison Lang ’28, Nadia Smith ’28, Gabriella Ogunnupe ’27, Anna Mathias ’27, Kendall Dobratz ’27, Katie Hurley ’27, Victoria Tesoro ’26, Sophia Busa ’26, Julia Echavarria ’25, and Adriana Echavarria ’25. These players skated against America’s best teams in tournaments held in Virginia, Massachusetts, and Ohio, and all 12 of their club organizations made it far in the standings.
When speaking to Addison Lang ’28 about her experience at the tournament, she said, “It was really cool to play hockey in a different state with the girls from Berkshire, but to also play hockey with girls who I only get to play with on Sundays in the fall. Two different worlds came together like my school life and my hockey life.”
During the tournament, there was one game a day, which allowed the players free time to spend as they wished, hanging out with teammates or doing schoolwork. As student-athletes, it is important to have a balance during tournaments in order to have fun and also get their work done.
Makenna Komanecky ’28 said how she, “Loved being able to play with one of [her] teammates from Berkshire during nationals because club hockey and school hockey feel so different, and to be able play a few more games after a fun season was really exciting.”
After a successful season for the Berkshire Girls’ Varsity Ice hockey team, earning a place in the play-offs, hosting The Kent School at home, it was an excellent opportunity for the players to get a few more games with one another.
This display of hard work and dedication is what represents the Girls’ Varsity Ice Hockey team at Berkshire. Their commitment to both their club and school teams is a testament to their hard work and love for the game.
