Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse had an impressive season this year, boasting a record of ten wins and five losses. Coach Simmons had previously led the team as head coach, but stepped back this year, with Coach Lyons from Canterbury School stepping into the head coach position. With a strong background in competitive girls lacrosse, Coach Lyons has brought new energy and strategy to the team. Although Coach Lyons’ coaching style is demanding, she motivates her players to reach their full potential. In the past twelve years, Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse had never claimed a victory over Taft. Despite facing adversity, this year the girls brought their best effort to the field and secured a 9-8 win over Taft.
The team is managed by the Abigail-squared duo: Abby Eisen ’26 and Abigail Smith ’28, whose hard work and infectious energy help drive the team forward. A notable moment in the season was when senior Elle Dillmeier reached her 100th goal! With her talent and consistency, Elle has been an integral part of the team, helping to shape its success.
Although the girls were initially slow to warm up to one another, they gradually found their rhythm. The team shares a strong camaraderie and spirit, where the team members are uplifting and supportive of one another. Their pre-game ritual for home games consists of them standing in a circle and cultivating positive energy before stepping onto the field. Their tight-knit bond is evident both on and off the field, creating a positive atmosphere for all. Especially after a tough game, the girls regroup and come back stronger. Not only do they bounce back, but they read the game, adjust, and adapt when necessary, even if this means altering usual approaches. In the fast-paced environment of girls’ lacrosse, this is crucial. The seniors on the team exemplify exceptional leadership, show resilience, and serve as role models. With an outstanding 11-10 senior game home win against rival Deerfield, the Girls Varsity Lacrosse team has proven that they are a formidable opponent and are here to stay.
