As the first non-athlete in the Class of 2025 to commit to college, Noboru Tsuru Davara ’25 didn’t allow himself to relax too much after receiving his acceptance. Instead, he continued to push himself by balancing academics, maintaining his training in the gym, and fulfilling his responsibilities as a dorm prefect.
Noboru received his admission decision from the University of Chicago the day before Fall Family Weekend. Just before heading onto the field for the Varsity Football game, he opened the email alongside his parents and roommate. Filled with excitement, he carried that energy onto the field and into the celebratory weekend he spent with his family in New York City.
When asked about his life after this commitment, Noboru reflected, “I found a better balance between school and gym.” He continues to dedicate himself to his AMSR project and to making a meaningful impact at Berkshire– one way being through his leadership of LASA. As he looks ahead to senior spring, his focus is on savoring the moment, spending time with his friends, and preparing for the next chapter of his journey.
His advice for underclassmen is simple yet insightful: “Be yourself…I did the projects that I think are cool, not those that I consider to be good for college, and it worked out well for me.” Noboru’s journey is a testament to the power of passion and authenticity. He is living proof that staying true to oneself often leads to success in high school and beyond.
