Amidst the freezing weather under the Mountain, Berkshire’s Boys’ Varsity Ice Hockey team displayed their fierce spirit during the traditional Pink Out Game against Taft School. The Pink Out Game is one of the most popular events at Berkshire, not just for students but for faculty, staff, and families. When the entire community gathers in the Jack, cheering like the Pink Out Game is far more monumental than the Super Bowl, it is hard to avoid enjoying this blood-pumping event.
In previous years, our boys’ ice hockey team was ablaze with enthusiasm, hope, beautiful teamwork, and courage. After being defeated by Taft two years ago, the players were beyond prepared and determined to showcase their amazing talents – the revenge battle was officially on. Throughout all three periods, we saw breathtaking technique and energy from every player, which proved essential to the team’s continued success in offense, defense, and beating down Taft. No one in the crowd sat down, as our players ceaselessly approached Taft’s goal and tossed around the puck like expert predators (in the best way possible). The community was on its feet, clasping their hands together and peeking heads between heads to root for Berkshire’s victory. Thanks to the team’s awe-inspiring efforts and everyone’s genuine spirit and enthusiasm, Berkshire proudly earned the title of winner of the 2025 Pink Out Game. The Pink Out game—the winner of which is awarded the Lucille D’Arco Memorial Cup—was established in 2008 to raise money to fight cancer after Ms. D’Arco’s fearless battle with breast cancer.
I reveled in the victory celebration as the bleachers went crazy with students jumping up and down and hugging anyone around them. As much as I felt exceptional pride for being a Berkshire bear after our victory, I felt greater joy in the night’s intimate, energetic atmosphere. Often, I and many other students forget to appreciate Berkshire’s unique community of people from all over the world. Everyone is equally passionate about uplifting one another’s high school experiences, making events like Pink Out all the more special. Community-wide events like the Pink Out Game are not just much-needed breaks from our busy, overwhelming lives but reminders that each of us is here for one another. The Bears are always eager to show support and love, no matter how preoccupied they are with their schedules, making this community indescribably special.
