Over Berkshire’s Fall Family Weekend, our fall athletic programs faced off against Canterbury School for possession of the Sheehan Cup. The competition for the Sheehan Cup, named after longtime Canterbury Headmaster Walter Sheehan, has been played since the rivalry began in 1983. This year Berkshire hosted eleven contests spanning from Thirds Soccer to Varsity Field Hockey, so every win counted! To win the cup, one school must win the majority of those contests. Berkshire’s fall athletics have consistently possessed the cup over the years of competition between the two schools, and this year was no different.
Continuing the Bears’s winning streak, Berkshire’s fall athletic teams triumphed over the Saints in a crushing 9-2 victory, winning nine out of the eleven contests against Canterbury. Congratulations to these teams on their victories:
Boys Varsity Football
Girls Varsity Soccer
Girls J.V. Soccer

Special congratulations to the Girls’ J.V. Soccer team, for the competition-winning game! They posted a 6-0 win over Canterbury on Saturday, 10/19. When Adriana Echavarria ‘25 was asked about how she felt during the game, she said, “I felt electric. It was a challenging game, and the team had a lot of fun!” She reflects on the win and her season in a positive way, mentioning how excited she is for the rest of her fall. Captain Hattie Young ‘25 responded similarly, stating, “Our team has had a very successful season, and I am proud to be a part of the program and see our hard work pay off.” Both of these seasoned senior players are satisfied with their seasons and enjoyed their time being a part of the program.
On Friday, 10/18, our Boys’ Varsity Football team also sported an impressive 21-14 win to help win the Sheehan Cup. Their performance under the lights was thrilling and school spirit was at a high. Students lined the rope barriers next to the field bringing ultimate levels of energy while parents and faculty mingled around the coffee truck and bleachers. It was an amazing time for the student body and families that came to show their support. Special thanks to the Green and Gray Captains and Student Activities Committee that helped put on the halftime field goal contest.
Overall, this year’s Family Weekend was one to remember. As families watched the slate of games between Berkshire and Canterbury, Berkshire’s athletes gave it their all. The competition for the Sheehan Cup has always been exciting, and the Berkshire community is grateful for the opportunity to compete so closely with the Canterbury School. This year’s win of the Sheehan Cup is a direct result of our fall athletes’ dedication to playing not just for themselves but for the entire Berkshire community. Once again, Congratulations to our fall athletes, and let’s continue our possession of the Sheehan Cup!
