As the curtains of our winter season under the Mountain drew to a close, many Bears performed in the Spring Concert on the night before Spring Family Weekend. Numerous other students and families came to Allen Theater, showing their support. This showcase presented performances from five distinct groups: Jazz Band, Chorus Ensemble, Chamber Music Ensemble, Ursa Minor, and Greensleeves. This was the last seasonal concert of the 2023-2024 school year, along with being the last performance for many of our senior Bears.
A unique highlight of this show was the Chamber Music Ensemble’s rendition of the Love Theme, from the 1988 film Cinema Paradiso. There was no conductor for this piece and each of the students stood up at different times, leading the group with their solos. They also presented the piece “Waltzing Matilda”, which was arranged by our very own Toby Huang.
Greensleeves brought together a fantastic performance of the song I Want It That Way. The impressive piece was made more festive and upbeat by Sam Wang ‘27, who captured the audience’s attention in an exceptional solo. This throwback song caused many attending faculty members and adult visitors to reminisce about popular music of earlier decades. Indeed, the song brought back feelings of youthfulness and nostalgia. With this song being a well-known symbol of the late ‘90s, the audience joined in, clapping along with the beat. This performance not only created a captivating atmosphere on stage, but it also fostered connections within the audience, serving as a force of Berkshire spirit.
Last but not least, Ursa Minor wrapped up the concert with a phenomenal performance, treating the audience to the melodies of Without You Without Me and a popular song from The Hunger Games, “Can’t Catch Me Now”, originally sung by Olivia Rodrigo. Chloe Howard’s remarkable solo lit up the stage, creating a lively and vibrant atmosphere in the dead of winter.
Without this spectacular performance, and the music that filled the auditorium air, our lives would “B flat.” The variety of musical performances showcased in this event deeply portrayed the range of talents and gifts in our Berkshire community. Let’s appreciate the joyfulness and serenity given to us through music and await future events similar to these!
