On May 1, 2024, I had the opportunity to sit down with Ms. Tuleja for an insightful interview, reflecting on her influential journey at Berkshire. Ms. Tuleja’s departure sparked emotions, yet her words resonated with the essence of joyful learning and community support that defined her time under the Mountain.

“I didn’t come here to be isolated. I do this to be all in.” Ms. Tuleja shared with me, reflecting on her time spent under the Mountain. 

Ms. Tuleja’s journey at Berkshire was characterized by her transformative approach to teaching students research strategies. Despite initial apprehension, she discovered the joy in research through adapting teaching methods to each student’s needs while nurturing their curiosity. Her dedication to make the process engaging and meaningful has left a lasting impact on students—including me.

“Anyone who needs to come in here knows they can.. And by that, it’s because I’ve stated it, I’ve been approachable…”  she explains. 

Central to Ms. Tuleja’s Berkshire experience was the unwavering support of the community–faculty, staff, and students. Embracing the opportunity to forge genuine connections, she found solace in the camaraderie of her colleagues and the boundless potential of her students. Whether in the serenity of the quiet library or the intimate confines of the dorms, Ms. Tuleja prioritized the creation of safe, nurturing environments where students could thrive, all while fortifying their sense of belonging and trust.

Reflecting on her time, Ms. Tuleja shared anecdotes and cherished memories, each serving as a testament to her profound impact on Berkshire. From engaging discussions on social justice to lighthearted dorm escapades, she recounted the highlights of her time with nothing but warmth and nostalgia. Yet, amidst the smiles and laughs, it was her dedication to her students’ development that shone through this interview–a vessel of inspiration for all who had the privilege of getting to know her.

As Ms. Tuleja embarks on a new chapter in her professional career, her legacy at Berkshire School will continue. Her tireless advocacy for joyful learning and commitment to student success will echo through the walls of Berkshire. Though her presence will be missed, the Berkshire School community wishes her well in her future endeavors!
