To say that 2022 was an uneventful year for fashion would be an understatement. With Bella Hadid partnering with Coperni to design the infamous spray-on-dress or Kim Kardashian reviving Marilyn Monroe’s iconic “Happy Birthday Mr. President” dress, it leaves many wondering what the future of fashion and trends will hold.

Towards the end of 2022, we continued to see a rise in Y2K-esque fashions. This includes denim on denim, low rise jeans, rhinestones and baby tees, all items reminiscent of the early 2000s. Perpetuated by social media, this style continues to work its way into the ranks of high fashion.

Heading into this new year, I feel we will continue to watch the demise of skinny jeans. They have been replaced with more oversized styles, specifically marking an uptick in cargo style jeans. Models such as Emily Ratajkowksi have been spotted sporting large, baggy cargos.

Style isn’t the only element of fashion that has shifted going into the new year. Many brands and consumers alike have begun to work consciously towards practicing ethical fashion habits. Brands such as Reformation have made efforts to not only strive for the well being of their workers but the environment as well. The brand is climate-neutral and aims to be climate-positive by 2025.

Trends come and go and it will be interesting to see what styles influence our closets this year!
