Legally Blonde: The Musical

Kyron Stevenson ’24

During the 2021-22 school year, Berkshire School Theater is bouncing back with a new and exciting musical that everyone knows and loves: Legally Blonde. Although most people associate that title with the iconic movie starring Reese Witherspoon, it was later adapted into a musical and a Broadway hit.

After last year’s production, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, an amazing musical with a small cast of ten students, everyone was very excited for the musical announcement this year. Now, Legally Blonde invites over 20 students to play lead roles, ensemble, and stage managing. Due to COVID-19, there was no live singing or a live band in the musical last year. However, this winter, we will have a cast singing live and a live band accompanying us with a track.

First time stage manager Charlotte Bonomo ’24 participated in the fall play and is glad to learn how much fun and hard work the stage managing process is. Along with Charlotte, Sanjna Srinivasan 22, Maggie Shen 22, and Wakaba Aihara 22 have been working diligently every day to write, chart, and record blocking in every scene. Without them, there would not be a show.

Berkshire senior and theater veteran Leo Yang 22 is happy to be playing the antagonist Professor Callahan as a way to go outside of his comfort zone and have fun playing a new type of character. Nixie Tavarez 25 was a bit nervous to sign up for the musical, but after doing the fall play, she gained enough confidence to audition and is now playing quite a few supporting roles. Through this musical, she realized she wants to be a performer and pursue a career in theater. Angella Ma 24 enjoys meeting new people in the musical. She loves the sense of community that working on such a big and fantastic project like the musical brings to her life. She gets to meet people she never would have hung out with and to learn and grow as a person as well.

To show your support for this amazing cast and crew, please come to Allen Theater on February 17-19th and see an amazing production of Legally Blonde. There is a selection of fantastic songs and even better dance numbers. It’s a place where new and old faces to the Berkshire Theater and Music Department have become a community as a result of something beautiful.
